Play Performance at Blackwood Memorial Hall

On Thursday the 27th of June the  year 6/7s from H.P.S. went to Blackwood Memorial Hall for the Matinee  performance to the younger kids. The three plays were Strictly Fairytale Come Dancing by Room 13 (our class), Detective Mimms and the Snaffler by room 10’s year sixes and some from 12  and Once Upon a time in Fairyland by room 12. We arrived at about 8:30 am and had time for one rehearsal each before the younger kids arrived. Room 13 suffered some major mishaps with Gus, the main character Hansel going off sick, and Zac a presenter sick as well. What were we going to do ? Thankfully our savior, also known as Louis, was happy to fill in as Hansel instead of being the wolf and Lily filled Louis’ shoes as well as her part as Jack, in which she did very well. Ella, who was the other presenter said Zac’s lines as well as her own. The Matinee went smoothly and we were all excited for the evening performance for Parents and Friends. That night we all arrived, except Zac, we were going to have to have our performance with out him. Gus turned up thankfully just in time. The play went excellently and the ugly sisters had the whole audience in stitches of laughter and the pigs were very good at putting on the Ritz. Over all the night went exceptionally well and we would like to thank Mrs S our music teacher, Mrs Leonard our principal, Nina the assistant producer, all the apprentice sound and lighting engineers as well as our teachers for all the support.

Eulers path

During maths we learnt about a puzzle called “The seven bridges of Klonigsberg” In this puzzle the people of Klonigsberg pondered whether it was possible to cross every bridge in Klonigsberg without crossing any bridge twice. Konigsberg_bridges

The puzzle was given to Leonhard Euler in the 1730’s and when Euler solved the problem he invented a whole new branch of mathematics called topography. If a shape or set of lines has either 2 or 0 vertices with an odd number of lines going through it then you can draw the shape without taking your pen of the page. Some of us were challenged to make our own shapes like these so we did-

Plays

Every year  the 3 classes of year 6/7’s do plays. They each choose a suitable play (usually something about fairytales) and people audition for the roles. We chose a play called ‘Strictly Fairytale Come Dancing’. Rebecca and Gus got the main lead as Hansel and Gretel. ‘Strictly Fairytale Come Dancing’  is a dancing competition where people perform dances and the judges score them. It’s kind of like ‘ The X Factor’ or ‘Australian Idol’.

We are performing our play in week 9. We practice most days. Rebecca and Georgia K are making up the dances.  There are 7 contestants who are entering the competition.

Who do you think will win? What will the prize be? Leave a comment below.

Paper houses

This term in maths, with our student teacher Matt, we made houses out of paper. The aim of it was to try to make the house from our plan. We needed to build the houses using only paper, glue and sticky tape. After we finished them Matt decided we had to make a pool or a water tank to go near the house. Then we had to make posters advertising them, so we could try and sell the house.

Plays

On Thursday we went to the memorial hall to show our plays to a couple of classes. I think it went quite well except 2 main people weren’t feeling well so I had to fill in last minute. Everyone knew their lines and no one messed up.  Mr Mac’s and Mr Berry’s plays were really good as well. At 3.15 we left to go home and relax till 6. At 6 we had to go back to the hall to perform for all the parents. I was really nervous but I got over it and we did a great job. We were the last play to perform.

Here are some pictures of the night:

A few weeks ago we had to make a narrative about an inanimate object Here is my story.

It seemed like an average day, he picked me up and pinned me on his shirt. He carries me everywhere like a Joey in a pouch. We got in the car and he looks at his watch its 7:32 am on a Monday morning. We kept driving to work, I could feel something a certain feeling that something was about to happen. Just as that feeling came his eyes started to close, I scream and shout but he can’t hear me, I try to hit him and wake him up but what can I do I can’t move. Then I heard a really loud noise it was like a fog horn luckily enough It was loud enough to wake up but  he didn’t know that he is driving we start sliding because of the downpour we had last night, we both start screaming for our lives. We finally stop sliding it felt like a lifetime. I go back and forward again and again like a broken gondola due to his heart beating like a mad man. We arrived at work and say a man with a suitcase and a red hat he looked very suspicious and had a sinister look about him. We walked in and saw the gigantic line outside the door. We also saw the red hat man at the back of the line, he took me of and put me on the desk, this is where I sit for the day I have seen the weirdest people walk in. When we sat down the line got smaller and smaller until my owner got to the red hat man, he lifted his arm up and slowly opened his suitcase revealing a gun. I was screaming and shouting but then I remembered he can’t hear me, he pulled it up higher and loaded then shot him. The red hat man ran as fast as he could out of the building, as I helplessly watch my owner fall to the ground with wounds to the chest. I think what could I have done? Then I remember I am only a badge, moments later the police arrive and put me in a bag as a part of evidence.

Pizza Party!

On Friday 8th of June, it was our student teacher Matt’s last day at the school. To thank him for being with us for over six weeks, we held a pizza party. We had coke, 3 slices of pizza each, and a cup of coke. It was yum! I had two Hawaiians and a Meatlovers. I ended up getting two cups of coke because there were a couple left over.

Lorin Nicholson

Hi it’s Zoe and Harriet and Kaleb here

This week we had a man here called Lorin Nicholson. He is blind and he is super talented at playing the guitar. He came and played for the whole school then the younger kids left and the year 6/7 got to stay a bit longer and ask him some questions about his life and about himself. He also played some more music for us. We all marveled at how well he coped with life when he only had 6% of his vision because he suffered from Retinitis Pigmentosa. When the whole school was there he brought out his talking phone that when you pushed on an app it told you what the app was, it was very cool. He had an assistant called Devon who help him through out the performance by handing him his guitar and other things. He told us two stories about some journeys that he went on. The first story was when he had 10% of vision and he was 16 years old and he lived in Tamworth. He decided he was going to ride the 275km to the sea. He said going over the mountains was the hardest bit of the ride but he finally made it to the sea. The other story was about when he, his brother Dean and their chosen friends rode across Australia. They flew from Brisbane to Perth and then rode tandem bikes across Australia to Sydney. They had 7 flat tyres and rode through rain, thunder and cold and hot weather. Lots of people stopped them on their way to ask them some questions.
